Help Us
There are two main ways to directly volunteer:
On the Ward
On the Committee
And one main way to indirectly volunteer:
By fundraising and raising awareness
On the Ward:
Volunteers visit the ward to sit and talk with patients, make drinks and generally be a friendly face. At both Easter and Christmas we deliver presents to patients. We pass suggestions and comments on to the staff nurses and do anything in order to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
If you can spare one morning or afternoon a week/fortnight please get in touch with the Chair.
Please note: You will be expected to comply with any arrangements set out by the NHS which will be discussed before you start.
On the Committee:
Every other month, on a Wednesday evening, the Committee meets at Ipswich Hospital
to discuss the Treasurers report, make decisions on how the donations are used
and work towards putting the patients’ needs first. We also discuss any communications
we have received from patients, families, fundraisers etc. All the Committee
are from different backgrounds and some take on special roles, e.g. treasurer
etc. The Committee is also involved in promoting the Charity by appearing in
publicity, helping at the Coffee Morning events and selling Charity Christmas
cards. All
involvement is voluntary; there are no expectations.
Fundraising:
The Group is grateful for any fundraising completed in order to raise awareness
and funds for the Charity, however should you wish your event to be endorsed
by the Group please contact us in advance. We have collection buckets and tins,
a banner and leaflets which you can borrow. In addition a Committee Member may
be able to attend, if requested.
Please do nominate Somersham Ward Support Group to be your company's Charity of the Year.
